Chlamydia - Have you got it?
Over the Rainbow is now offering FREE Chlamydia testing for those under 25. This ‘do it yourself’ testing will be offered on Tuesday to Friday between 10am-5pm and until 8pm on Friday.
So, why should you get tested for Chlamydia? Well, most people who have Chlamydia don’t realise they have it, as they have no symptoms and will not know unless they get tested. With around 1 in 10, 16-25 year olds testing positive for Chlamydia, it’s a test you wouldn’t want to miss!
The great thing about our Chlamydia testing is, all you need to do is pee in a pot if you’re a guy and the ladies can just take a swab from their vagina themselves – easy peasy! This is then sent to a lab and 2 weeks later you’ll get the result through text, telephone or letter, whatever you prefer.
Easy To Treat
Chlamydia is on the increase and is the UK’s most common bacterial sexually transmitted infection (STI). People get it through having sex (anal, oral and vaginal) and sharing sex toys, with someone who (probably unknowingly) has Chlamydia.
The good news is, it is easily treated with free antibiotics, but the bad news is, it can cause many different problems if left untreated. For men these problems include painful balls, problems with the prostate and possibly infertility. Whilst, for women, pelvic infections can occur which could cause long term tummy pain and infertility.
If you’re in a relationship and you find you have Chlamydia, this does not mean your partner has been unfaithful. Chlamydia can cleverly hide for years without causing symptoms. Possible symptoms to look out for are:
- For man, a burning feeling when peeing, a discharge from the tip of the penis and sore balls.
- Women need to watch out for a change in discharge, abnormal bleeding (either after sex or between periods), lower tummy pain and a burning feeling when peeing.
The best way to protect yourself from all of the many unwanted STIs out there is, you’ve guessed it, condoms! At Over the Rainbow we can supply you with FREE extra strong condoms, flavoured condoms and lubrication. Remember Chlamydia isn’t your only risk out there; there are plenty of other undesirable STIs that can make sex a lot less fun!
